I sent this out in an e-mail a while ago so some of you might have read it...
Okay so I'm seriously bored and wondering what to do with my time. I'm sure there's a million and one more useful things I could be doing but instead I thought I'd go off on some music blog tip. Oh well, here we go....
>Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (Warp Records)
Oh my god, what an album!
Reminds me of burial but with a reggae/hip hop feel. Created most of the music for late night Adult swim, and is quickly becoming one of the best known laptop artists in the instrumental hip hop/bass genre.
Interestingly sometimes makes his drums out of time, weird but a really captivating listen.

>Ozomatli - Ozomatli (Almo Sounds)
Don't get any of the new stuff, they're a bit cheesy but they basically started out as Charli 2na and Cut Chemists samba/latin/rock project.
Only listen to the hip hoppy tunes like Cut Chemist suite, but the others aren't bad either.

>Matty G - Everything! (Argon)
Bay area Dubstep, one of the finest scenes in the dubstep genre at the moment and this guy is head and shoulders above his peers. Drawing Inspiration from west coast hip hop, reggae and dub this guy is attempting to redefine a genre with very little support.
Get Amen, 50,000 Watts, West Coast Rocks.. anything you can find by him will usually bass your socks off

>Loefah - Everything! (DMZ/Tectonic)
Leading the way for minimal dubstep, not that wank minimal techno tip they're all trying to pull off badly. This guy helped set up one of the first dubstep nights in the uk, DMZ.. (anyone else think this is all going a bit AWOL?) He's remixed Skream, Matty G, Caspa & Pinch into tunes that are trying to break free from that Wibbly Wobbly LFO that has come to constrict and define dubstep as a genre.
Listen to Jungle Infiltrator EP, Mud/Ruffage (spot the Phantasy & Gemini sample!) & It's Yours.
>Boxcutter - Oneiric (Planet Mu)
Maybe not a pleasant listen and possibly more of an acquired taste but this artist is taking influences from breakcore and dubstep. Don't know much about this fella except his name is Barry. Sounds like Squarepusher & µ-Ziq (pronounced Musik, according to charlie whom seems to know a tad too much about the greek alphabet... strange)
Also check out his debut album Glyphic

DJ C & Zulu - Sonic Weapons (Mashit)
C's debut full length 2007 album. Obviously produced on a dubstep tip, this old skool Chicago jungle DJ practically invented a new genre; Digital Ragga. Employing bad-bwoy ragga MC Zulu, this album is full of cut up amen breaks, huge, bouncy riddims and dutty vocals. Pay special attention to Wacko Macko is Backo.. tunage!

Kid Kameleon - Most, if not ALL of his online mixes
An American DJ who is down with several wicked labels & crews including Big Apple records and Mashit.
Check out all of his online mixes (on the right hand side of the page) especially Aim High (Mashit) and Aim Low (Spannered!)
(also check out the Eskmo remix of Nude by Radiohead at the top-ish right hand side... wow!)

Fatboy Slim - Better Living Through Chemistry (Skint Records)
A classic from '96 that everyone should (re)discover. Put it on after a VERY long walk with Charlie and a chat about big beat, possibly Brighton's only useful contribution to modern dance music. Check out Everybody needs a 303 (his first single) & Going out of my Head, sampling Yvonne Elliman's amazing cover of The Who's I Can't Explain.
Ghostbeard - Not Another Dance Craze (Mashit)
Ghostbeard (the guy who runs the infamous Ninja Tune Label in the US) comes out with an incredible Dancehall mix to get us in the mood for summer... I'll let the mix speak for itself here.

Noisia - Fabriclive 40 (Fabric)
Noisia pops up once again just to remind us what an incredible DJ he is. 1 hour of dark, dirty, and weirdly downtempo beats and basslines to make even the hardiest rudeboy wince a little. Seriously good mixing and never leaves anything in the mix too long, doesn't even let the first tune drop!

Stenchman - Everything! (Heavy Load)
Yes, more UK dubstep. This guy is not often heard of but he's really rockin' it at the moment. The most Key element of his tunes are the 140 drums, no half speed bollocks here. Finally, some danceable dubstep!
Seriously check out the Reggae Reggae Sauce remix if you can find it!

Finally...
STUFF TO AVOID THIS SUMMER:
Pendulum - The new Prodigy? My arse.
Headhunter - Trying to pave the way for the minimal techno/dubstep thing. It's BORING mate!
'Bassline House' - IT'S CALLED GARAGE!!!
The 80Db nightclub thing - right bollocks http://www.islington.gov.uk/Business/regulations/healthandsafety/noise_at_work.asp
Farmers Tan - yeah, I've got one already...
Hope you guys find time to read this and that it's interesting.
Any feedback would be great
Peace out,
A
P.S. Keep an eye out for the Cocking Dub Crew this summer, was lucky enough to witness them jamming lastnight with special guest Jack Finch on the penny whistle/spoons (I don't know, it's an Irish thing...) and they fucking rocked it!
You can catch them some Thursdays at the open mike at The Vestry in Chichester and they'll be throwing parties all summer long with their brand new genny...
P.P.S. If anyone knows how to use a torrent client and wants a hand downloading some of the above mentioned music I'm more than happy to send you a DeepBassNine Invite for all your DnB/Breaks/Dubstep/House/Techno/Breakcore/Uk Garage needs. Just let me know.
